Multi-instrumentalist James Clifford started Primaveras when he was a student at the University of Southern California back in 2016, and even though you’ve probably never heard of him, he’s received glowing reviews in some of the industry’s most well-read publications (Consequence of Sound, Billboard, Paste), and licensed his tunes to a pair of network TV shows, as well as a little coffee company called Starbucks.
His music is a dreamy mix of disco, psychedelic pop, and the type of Balearic headiness you’d find flowing from the speakers of a Malibu bar on an early summer afternoon. There’s a tinge of ‘80s nostalgia in Clifford’s DNA, but not enough to make the entirety of his catalog seem referential or mired in the past. “Find A Way,” his latest single, will give you the same shivers that Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” did back in 2013. Clifford’s forthcoming EP, Anthropometries, will be released August 7, but you can check out their first full-length, 2018’s Echoes in the Well of Being, on Spotify.
